Elliott McDowell was born in Evansville, Indiana, United States.

Education

In 1970 McDowell graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas, United States with a degree in advertising and marketing. He attended summer workshops with Ansel Adams from 1973 to 1975.

Career

From 1971 to 1974 Elliott worked in advertising and public relations for American Gypsum Company. Since 1975 he worked as a fine-art photographer and publisher.

Using everything from miniature negatives (Minox) to large format, the photographer produces "elegant absurdities as well as classical 1930s style, redone with what is available today."

• Publications Monographs: Moonrise Over Rolls Royce, 1978, Room Service, 1978, Boots and Wurlitzer, 1977 (self-pub.).
