Career
In 2006 he joined the Alliance for the Future of Austria (BZÖ). On August 27, 2008, Lichtenegger received a lifetime ban from international athletics competition due to his second positive test for the banned substance nandrolone. Since he had announced his retirement the previous year, he will not contest the results of the test or the ban itself.
He did, however, cite tainted nutrition supplements after the results of both tests were discovered.
