Beginning his career as a western representative of the Boston firm of Maginnis & Walsh, he gave up that position in 1908 to form a partnership with Paul Van Trees of Los Angeles. In that early period of practice he designed a Catholic Church at San Bernardino and a number of residences in various locations in the state.
His most important works were executed after 1915, when as a partner with Frank R. Schaeffer under the name of Jeffrey & Schaeffer, the firm acquired a reputation in school work. Among the various buildings they planned in southern California should be mentioned the High School at Anaheim, 1920; Franklin High School at Highland Park, 1915-16; Grammar schools at Montebello, 1921 to 1929; the Montebello High School, 1923-24, and the Banning High School, 1928. Mr. Jeffrey also designed the Highland Park Masonic Lodge in 1922, and the Knights of Pythias Hall at Anaheim.
