Background
Emi Sampaku was born in Aki Province (Hiroshima Prefecture), he was bereaved of his parents when young and brought up by a family called Fujioka. His family name was Tsutsumi.

Emi Sampaku

Emi Sampaku was a Japanese physician. His given name was Sadahide and he also called himself Shiken. He was one of the great Koiho (old medical school) practitioners along with Yoshimasu Todo who is from the same province as Sampaku. In general, he was depicted as an “intensive medicine dozer”; however it doesn't seem to be his factual depiction.
Education
He studied hard the classical medical book, Shokanron, written by a Chinese, Chang Chung-ching.
Career
Sampaku was an advocate of classical Chinese medicine. In his time, Todo Yoshimasu came out with a theory that all diseases are caused by one poison and Sampaku supported it. Sampaku became famous as a physician and was employed by the Lord of Aki, receiving a fief of 200 koku of rice.

He became the son-in-law of Ryogcn Emi.
