(American biologist Samantha D. Foster, better known as Sa...)
American biologist Samantha D. Foster, better known as Sam, is headed to the Chubut Province of Patagonia to study the health of the native penguins at Punta Tombo. Her fellow passengers include Welsh tourists headed to the local Eisteddfod, an accountant seeking his runaway wife and daughter, and Arch Stuart, an amateur astronomer whose nocturnal movements begin to occupy more than her passing interest. Local naturalist Gustavo Evans and his assistant, Alejandro López, agree to host Sam and she is quickly impressed by their determination to maintain their age-old culture despite intrusion by the contemporary world. Still, she is unable to shake her suspicions that something does not seem right. Satisfied eventually of astronomer Stuart's sincerity and propelled by anger after a penguin on the preserve dies suddenly, a man is mauled by elephant seals, and there are several mysterious sightings at sea, Sam enlists Stuart's help to figure out who or what is responsible for the tragedies. At a critical moment, Sam becomes aware of an international threat to all cultures-no matter how isolated-and discovers Stuart's shocking true mission.

(Amanda Prescott is at a low point in her young life. Not ...)
Amanda Prescott is at a low point in her young life. Not only has her fiancé succumbed to cancer, but her career as a concert pianist has evaporated, and her position with a prominent Senator has been derailed by government funding quirks. Amanda has few choices. A simple fender bender with Sheila Cameron, owner of an elite real estate agency, however, changes everything. Crippled by financial need, Amanda accepts a temporary position as an agent. Though insecure about her ability to handle exclusive estates and wealthy clients, Amanda uses pluck and creativity to sell her first home—the oldest historic home in Loudoun County. The home once belonged to the Davis family, who immigrated to Virginia in 1725 seeking religious freedom. When Amanda and her next client, Ali Ahmed, discover the injured owner of a horse farm clutching a cryptic poem, Amanda is both frightened and intrigued by the cascading, intertwined events that follow. Seamlessly weaving a historical storyline with a contemporary plot, this enticing novel captures one family’s struggles, their immigration from Wales, and their efforts to establish places of worship—and one woman’s plunge into unforeseen romance and danger.

(This third edition of the fourteen-generation Pritchard F...)
This third edition of the fourteen-generation Pritchard Family History contains a great many additions, among them several new related lines including Wass, Freeland, and Keefover. It is greatly improved from the previous edition because each person listed who has offspring is numbered, making it easier to trace individual lines. Best of all, some of the early questions have been solved and new links forged. The first section of the book deals with the Virginia Pritchards, beginning in 1620 with Thomas, a Jamestown immigrant. The second section chronicles the Pritchard journey westward and the related families of Tichnell, Nestor, and Meredith. Each section contains a list of sources, including court records, deed books, marriage records, cemeteries, tax rolls, genealogical societies, land grants and death records. The author carefully makes connections and references to numerous other family names and supporting documents throughout this book. She also notes when information is sketchy or disputed and offers when appropriate, alternative or likely conclusions. Maps and pictures are placed throughout, and the book includes a full name index. 2006, 5½x8½, paper, index, 2 vols., 758 pp.
