Career
He is a Fianna Fáil Councillor for the Glenties electoral area in Donegal and played for the Donegal Gaelic football team He was also a Senator from 1997–2002. Bonner is a senior partner in an auditors and accountants firm based in Letterkenny.
Bonner is a cousin of former international goalkeeper, Packie Bonner.
