Educated locally then qualified as a teacher after going to Teachers Training College at Kanye.
He joined the Bakwena administration as secretary of the school committee and later became treasurer, councillor and a member of the licensing board. In May 1964 he went to West Germany for a seminar on cooperatives. In November 1964 he became a Justice of the Peace.
He entered the Assembly for Molepololc East at the elections of March 1, 1965, and was made Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture on March 5, 1965. From August to December 1965 he travelled on a United Nations study tour of development financing, visiting Britain, USA, the Soviet Union, France and Switzerland. In January 1966 he pursued his study of financing development projects at another United Nations seminar in Ethiopia. After reelection for his constituency in October 1969 he was confirmed in his cabinet post.

A strong personality possessing abundant energy, often travelling to see local government problems on the spot. His varied experience with the Bakwena administration and as a Justice of the Peace has given him a sense of values much esteemed in government.
