Enshin Ito

Background

Enshin Ito was born in 1761.

Career

Enshin Ito specialized in historical subjects such as Soga Monogatari (Vendetta of Soga Brothers) and Gempei Seisuiki (battle between Genji and Heike families). He was summoned twice by the Shogun to perform at the Kofukuji Temple, near the Sumida River (1806 and 1808).

Achievements

• Enshin Ito came to be known as "finshin of Yushima" after he built a home near Yushima Shrine, where crowds came to listen to his stories.
