Born on July 17, 1959 to Liselotte Kunigrunde Kumpf and Edwin Grant Bingham. Was the fifth of seven children (1 brother and 5 sisters). Mother was an opera coach and taught voice and father was a police officer. Started to take an interest in music at the age of 10 and began to learn to play the piano. At age 12, learned how to play the flute by being taught by an older sister. At age 15, began to compose piano music.
