Erin McGraw was born on December 20, 1957, in Redondo Beach, California, United States. She is a daughter of C. Thomas McGraw, a physician, and Eva Marie (Begovich) McGraw, a homemaker.
In 1979, Erin received Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Davis. Later, she attended Indiana University Bloomington, graduating with Master of Fine Arts degree in 1986.
Between 1985-1986, Erin served as an instructor at DePauw University in Greencastle. Later, during the period from 1986 till 1991, she held a post of an assistant professor of English at the same university.
In 1988, Erin was a fellow of Yaddo Colony. Later, in 1991, she was appointed an assistant professor of English at the University of Cincinnati.
In her later years, Erin moved to the Ohio State University, where she taught at the faculty of the Creative Writing Program alongside her husband, the poet Andrew Hudgins, until her retirement. Then, the couple settled down in Sewanee, Tennessee.
Erin McGraw is a well-know American author. Her most notable works include "The Baby Tree", "The Seamstress of Hollywood Boulevard" and "Better Food for a Better World: A Novel".
During the period from 1989 till 1990, Erin was Wallace Stegner Fellow in creative writing at Stanford University. In 1994, she received a grant from Ohio Arts Council. Also, her work, "Lies of the Saints", was named a Notable Book for 1996 by The New York Times newspaper.
