Troilo, Erminio was born on July 8, 1874 in Archi.
Professor of Theoretical Philosophy. Universities of Palermo, 1915-1920, and Padua, from 1920.
After subjecting positivism to a critical revision Troilo reached, around 1920, a fully metaphysical position, a journey also mediated by reflection on Bruno and Spinoza. He called this position ‘absolute realism'. Philosophy was conceived as a way of illuminating life and teaching us how to live. In addition, picking up a theme that goes back to Parmenides, he thought it impossible to think and be outside of Being. The absolute unity and fecund plasticity of Being are, for Troilo. the foundation of all immanence and transcendence, the foundation of immanence because nothing is outside Being, and the foundation of transcendence because the ontological reality of Being guarantees the reality of individual beings and unites them into a fundamental relationship. He was opposed to idealism and equally to any transcendent creationism. Like Spinoza’s his philosophical speculations are animated by a sense of religion, which accounts for his respectful attitude to Christian faith.
