Ernest-Eugene was a violinist and conductor, pupil of Habeneck at Paris Conservatory. He took 1st violin prize in 1848, and the 2nd for harmony (under Bazin) in 1849. In 1871 he was appointed as a deputy-conductor of the Opera and in 1879-1887 - as a conductor, then retired. Principal compositions: A symphony, string quartet, trio for pf. and strings, sonata for pf. and vln.
