Background

COLERIDGE, Ernest Hartley was born on December 8, 1846. Son of Reverend Derwent Coleridge, first Principal of St. Mark’s College, Chelsea, Rector of Han well, Prebendary of St. Paul’s, and Mary Simpson Pridham, daughter of John Drake Pridham, Plymouth, banker.

Education

Studied at Sherborne School, 1862-1866. Balliol College Oxford, 1866-1870. Master of Arts, Honourable.

Career

Fellow, Royal Society of Literature. Tutor, 1872-1893; secretary to the Lord Chief Justice of England, January to June, 1894.
