He was a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-pace bowler who played for Kent. Malden made a single first-class appearance in the 1893 season, against Marylebone Cricket Club. In the match, which finished in an innings defeat for Kent, he scored no runs in the first innings, but 22 runs in the second, both times being caught off the bowling of one-time England Test cricketer Dick Pougher.
