In 1880 (when he was twenty-six) Mr. Varian moved to Denver, subsequently entered into partnership with Frederick J. Sterner and under the firm name designed the University Club, Home for Consumptives, and the Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs. After 1910 Mr, Varian was associated with his son, Lester E., as co-architect of the Hale Scientific Building, the High School and Chemical Building in Denver, also buildings elsewhere in Colorado, including the Minoqua Hospital in Pueblo. At Mr. Varian's death he was succeeded in practice by his son Lester E..
