Has illustrated for Scribner’s Magazine, besides many books, including Theodore Roosevelt’s “Life of Cromwell” and Henry Cabot Lodge’s “Story of the Revolution.” Lived many years in Europe, writing and illustrating papers for Scribner’s and other leading American periodicals. Painted large murals “Le Morte d’Arthur” for library, Cleveland, 1911, and since in many rooms in Paris, New York and California. Murals in Seamen’s Bank for Savings, New York, 1927, Bank of New York, also Embassy Club of New York, 1928. Went to France, March 1918, as official artist attached to American Expeditionary Force, with rank of captain, following entire American campaign (drawings now in New National Museum, Washington). Director painting studios, American Expeditionary Force Art Training Center, Bellevue, France, 1919. Director department of mural painting, Beaux-Arts Institute of Design, New York, 1919-1926. Consultant on murals New York World’s Fair, 1939. Chairman American committee Fontainebleau School Fine Arts. A.N.A., 1909.
