Ethna Viney was born Ethna McManus in 1930s in County Cavan, Ireland to the family of a civil servant James McManus and a bank employee Mai Penrose.

Education

Ethna Viney studied at the College of Pharmacy in Dublin, Ireland graduating as a Bachelor of Science in 1957. Ethna Viney graduated from the University College Dublin as a Bachelor of Arts in 1965.

Career

Ethna Viney worked as a pharmacy owner in 1957-1961. Since 1961 she worked as a television producer of current affairs programs, editor, freelance journalist, writer, and critic.

Together with her husband Michael Viney and solely she authored a number of books including Ancient Wars: Sexuality And Oppression, Dancing to Different Tunes: Sexuality and Its Misconceptions, and Ireland's Ocean: A Natural History.
