In 1870, Eugène Carrière entered the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and some time later, after serving in the Franco-German War, he came back to Paris, where he studied under the guidance of Alexandre Cabanel.
In 1877, after marriage to Sophie Demuco, Carrière moved to London, where he was influenced by works of Joseph Mallord William Turner, whose impact is felt in some works of Eugène. In 1879, the artist exhibited his works at Salon (Paris) for the first time.

Quotations: "Nature alone can lead to the understanding of art, just as art brings us back to nature with greater awareness. It is the source of all beauty, since it is the source of all life."
Eugène Anatole Carrière married Sophie Demuco in 1877. The couple had seven children.
