Quotations:
"I began writing late in life after a long career in journalism. I got some good advice from my friend and colleague, Maeve Binchy: write what you like to read, and, write every day. For me writing is a full-time parallel career."
"There is no point sitting around waiting for inspiration to come. You must address the word processor. Writing must become a regular habit. You must be disciplined."
"It is also important to read widely in a large range of genres. My own particular genre is mystery writing, but I may try other genres. I believe what matters is not the genre, but the quality of writing. Mystery writing demands certain additional qualities, i.e. pace, character and plot. But good writing is essential."
"My only regret is that I did not start writing earlier."
Eugene is a member of National Union of Journalists, Mystery Writers of America and Crime Writers' Association (United Kingdom).
Eugene married Maura Magill on June 26, 1970. Their marriage produced two children — Caroline and Gavin.
