Eugene Joseph Prakapas was born on July 29, 1932, in Lowell, Massachusetts, United States.
Eugene Prakapas earned his Bachelor of Arts from Yale University, New Haven, Connecticut, in 1953 and his Master of Arts from Balliol College, Oxford University, England, in 1959.
Since 1976 Eugene Prakapas has been director of Prakapas Gallery in New York City. From 1973 to 1975 he was co-director of Carus Gallery in New York City, and from 1960 to 1971 he was vice-president and editor in chief of Trident Press and Pocket Books, divisions of Simon & Schuster, Inc. in New York City. He received a two-year fellowship to study Ikebana in Japan during the early 1970s.
