Howell, Evan P. was born on December 10, 1839 in Miltor Company, Georgia, United States. Son of Honorary Clark and Effie (Park) Howell.

Education

Educated Georgia Military Institute Marietta, Georgia, and Lumpkin Law School, Athens, Georgia.

Career

Practiced law 1 year before the war and after up to 1876 in Atlanta, Georgia. Then purchased half interest in the Atlanta Constitution and became president and editor-in-chief, retiring 1896. State senator, 1872-1878.

Solicitor general of Atlanta circuit, and member State legislature later. Member of commission to build new State capitol for Georgia. President Kimball House Company, and director in the two expns. in Atlanta.

Has been director in every new R.R. built into Atlanta following the war, now director Central R.R. of Georgia Appointed by President McKinley on commission to investigate conduct of war with Spain. Mayor Atlanta, 1903, 1904. Appointed consul to Manchester, England.
