Background
Evelyn Arthur Gresley Hellicar was the son of Arthur Gresley Hellicar (1835–1905) and Mary Ann Isabella Malthus (1832–1926). Evelyn was born in Bromley, the eldest of four children.

He was educated at Cranbrook School, Kent. Hellicar studied at University College London.
Arthur Hellicar came from the South West of England and served as Vicar of Bromley, Kent from 1865 to 1905. He was articled to Thomas Graham Jackson in 1883. That same year Jackson had added a new chancel to Bromley Parish Church.
They had one daughter, Mary Gresley Hellicar (born 1897).
Hellicar died at Corner Cottage, Hambledon, Surrey on 22 July 1929. Together they exhibited aa design for a post office in Hertford at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1890.
He was Diocesan Architect for Rochester.
Hellicar was a member of Royal Institute of British Architects from 1888-1928.
