Graduated from the Studio of Dramatic Art in Ufa, 1918, and from the State Film School, Moscow, 1927.
Entered the film industry, 1925 as an actor. Assistant to V.P. Gardin on his films Zolotoi Zapas and Krest i Mauzer, 1925. Co-scriptwriter and co-director with Gardin in Poet i Tsar', 1927 (an important silent film about the relationship between A. Pushkin and Tsar Nicolas I in which Cherviakov played the part of Pushkin).
In 1928, made his own film, Devushka s DalekoiReki. Other films include Moi Syn and Zolotoi Kliuv. Mortally wounded during the Battle for Leningrad.
Completely forgotten after his death. Re-discovered in the early 1960s. His films, now at the State Film Archive, are regarded as Soviet classics.
