Graduated from the Stroganov Art Industrial High School, 1915.
Director and then executive director of Goskino, 1918-1924. In 1919, with V. Gardin, co-produced the State Film School’s first film, Zheleznaia Piata, based on a Jack London short story. Worked as a stage designer on two films — Iz Iskry Plamia and Krasnyi Tyl, 1924-1925.
Made his debut as a director with Iu. Tarich in Moroka, 1925, followed by Mabul, based on a short story by Sholem-Aleichem, about the events of 1905 Revolution, and lad (script by A Lunacharskii), both 1927. In 1938, moved to Turkmenia and worked at the Ashkhabad Film Studio, now the Turkmenfilm Studio.
From 1945, its director. From 1956, worked at the Odessa Film Studio.
