Worked in the Khar’kov Botanical Gardens, 1921-1928. Professor at the Khar’kov Agricultural Institute, 1929 -34. Researcher in the Botanical Institute of the Academy of Sciences, 1934.
Developed a new classification for steppe vegetation. Compiled vegetation maps, and wrote on the history of flora and vegetation. Suggested the concept of the phytogeosphere.
