Geer, Ezra Harold was born on March 5, 1886 in Tabor, Iowa, United States. Son of Ezra Benoni and Lucy Jane (Spees) Geer.

Education

Diploma in music, Amity College, 1903. Bachelor of Arts, Doane College, 1906, Master of Arts (in absentia), 1910, Doctor of Music (honorary), 1949. Bachelor of Music, Oberlin (O.) Conservatory of Music, 1907, graduate student in organ and composition, 1907-1909.

Music study in Paris with Charles M. Widor and Andre Gedalge, 1911-1913. Studied organ with T. Tertius Noble, New York, 1915-1916. Conducting and composition with Andre Bloch, Fontainebleau, 1923.

Career

Instructor in organ and history of music Lake Erie College, Painesville, O., 1907-1909. Instructor in organ and theory of music, Albion (Michigan) College, 1909-1911. Organist and choirmaster First Congressional Church, Fall River, Massachusetts, 1913-1916.

With Vassar College, 1916-1952, as assistant professor of music, 1916-1919, associate professor, 1919-1922, professor of music, 1922-1952, director of Vassar College Choir, 1920-1952, department chairman music, 1944-1950. Organ recitals in Europe, 1924, various parts of the United States. Over 650 organ recitals at Vassar.

Consultant music Pennsylvania College for Women, 1952-1954. Professor music, acting head department, Hood College 1954-1956. Chairman educational committee, Hymnal for Colls., and School, 1956.
