He received an academic education at Yale University, and following his graduation in 1905 studied architecture at Columbia University and the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris.
Retired in 1930, Mr. Chapman had been in practice in New York about fifteen years. Before beginning practice for himself, he was associated with the office of Delano & Aldrich for three years, and during a later period worked with Heathcote M.Woolsey.
Independently Mr. Chapman designed a number of residences in New York and vicinity, also was architect of the Christ Church Parish House at Rye, N.Y.
