(Rapid, technological change is having the most profound i...)
Rapid, technological change is having the most profound influence on how we conduct and organize business. Not to be aware of changes underfoot is a disaster. Despite the particular circumstances and events of the dot.com economy we do not have a "mature" economy, but one that is dynamic and growing. Professor Adams defines and explores the new economy and the future of E-Business.

(In recent years the world economy has been undergoing dra...)
In recent years the world economy has been undergoing drastic changes, the East Asian miracle, the financial crisis, and today, globalization and the fundamental changes associated with the ''new economy''. This book integrates these developments with macroeconomics for business managers and policymakers. Macroeconomics is essential background for the business manager and policymaker. Consequently macroeconomics is an integral part of the business curriculum in mature and developing countries alike. And well it should be. The economy affects decisions by investors, manufacturers, distributors, importers and exporters, etc. in all parts of the world. Often, it is the difference between growth and profitability on one hand, and stagnation or failure on the other. In recent years as the world economy has undergone overwhelming changes, especially in East Asia and now in the advanced countries, understanding what is going on in the local economy and ''out there in the world'' has become a particular challenge to managers. The new developments, of which the ''new economy'' is the most recent one, do not supercede the basic theoretical framework of macroeconomics. But they add greatly to the challenge of understanding the economic situation and to its uncertainty. This book was originally written to meet the needs of a business curriculum based on the program at the Sasin Graduate Institute of Business Administration of Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok in collaboration with the Wharton and Kellogg Business Schools in the United States. The book is intended for a broad audience - both domestic and international - that includes mature MBA business students, intermediate level undergraduates, and informed laypersons.

( We are witnessing a transformation in the world economy...)
We are witnessing a transformation in the world economy as a result of the IT/e-business revolution. Modern logistics based on cheap communication and transportation are shifting the locus of production and the international division of labour between the West and the lower wage countries of East Asia and similar changes are occurring within East Asia itself. Looming over the entire picture is the colossus that is China and this transformation is making East Asia the manufacturing centre of the world economy. Written by a recognized expert in the area of business economics, this book analyzes these developments and evaluates their future impact on the development of East Asia and its role in the world economy. The book examines the effect of the IT revolution, globalization and the 'new economy' on the development of East Asia. The first book-length treatment of IT/e-business in the region, it questions whether the e-business revolution will renew and sustain the rapid economic development of East Asia.

( The East Asian Crisis of 1997 and the following economi...)
The East Asian Crisis of 1997 and the following economic meltdown has raised new questions about the role of public policy in Asian economic growth and the best mix of policies to insure the survival of economic growth. Although economists agree that macroeconomic stability, the encouragement of exports and FDI inflows, and the development of human resources have been important in East Asian growth, they do not agree on whether industry specific policies have been useful. The policy experiences of the countries are diverse and do not show a strong relationship between policies and success. Bringing together the work of development economics experts, this book looks at the role of economic policy in East Asian development, the challenge of the economic meltdown, and the critical issues raised by that meltdown. Based on research and conferences at the International Centre for the Study of East Asian Development in Kitakyushu, Japan, the book opens with general chapters considering the policies behind East Asian growth, then discusses the policies of each country in country specific chapters. Up to date in its discussion, the book considers the questions raised by the crisis of 1997 from a variety of perspectives.

( We are witnessing a transformation in the world economy...)
My work in applied econometrics has gradually developed from a focus on individual macro-level behavioural equations to a concern with the linkages between econometric model systems and their application. I have been greatly concerned with stretching the limits of macro-modelling in the direction of models of industries and commodity markets. This calls for a broad scope, not only with respect to the structural form and estimation of relationships —
i. est use of engineering data and models and use of sectoral accounting systems — but also with respect to spelling out the structure of the critical linkages between various models.
Thus recent work has involved links between the national economy and sector commodity models, linking commodities into the world model system, global models between producer and consumer (also debtor and creditor) countries, and most recently a concern with the impact
of industrial policies within countries and on their international linkages. This leads naturally to a concern with the study of the restructuring of the world economy.
