Studied at Portsmouth Grammar School. Articled to Albert Besant (brother of Sir Walter Besant), solicitor, 1891.
After passing Law Societies’ Examinations adopted a journalistic career. Sketches, designs, and posters occupied him mainly, 1896-1901, when press photography and article-writing tilled most of the time. Awarded over 300 medals and other awards for photographic work at leading exhibitions in all parts of the world, and also silver and bronze medals for poster designs at the Crystal Palace Exhibitions, 1899 and 1900.
Special work on marine photography has been exhibited and written about for the past seven years.
Editor of the Photographic News from 1906 until its amalgamation with The Amateur Photographer, 1908. Editor of The Amateur Photographer and Photographic News.
