Hussian belonged to the Bhatti Rajput tribe and was from Sialkot. Husain was one of the founders of the old Punjab Unionist Party, and was opposed to Jinnah"s vision of an Independent Pakistan. He was knighted in 1926 and appointed a KCSI in 1932.
After his death, Husain"s son Mian Azim Husain wrote a biography of him.
His paternal half brother Mian Afzal Husain served as the Vice Chancellor of the University of the Punjab, Lahore for two terms, one term before (1938-1944) and one term after (1954-1965) the partition of British India into Pakistan and India.
