Felice Pedretti

Background

Pedretti was born in South Africa in November 1961.

Education

Felice Pedretti attended an English school. In 1977 he came to Italy where he had an opportunity to meet Luigi Ferrero, an artist and restorer who aroused in him a deep interest in ancient art. An important landmark was his meeting with Pietro Annigoni, Gregorio Sciltian and Giorgio de Chirico. They all were renowned painters with whom he had the good fortune to study. During that period, he trained the egg tempera and velatura techniques.

Career

The 1979 was the year when Pedretti began his expositive activity. He exhibited his artworks at various collective exhibitions, among which stood out the one organized at La Barcaccia in 1981. In 1982 he participated in a collective exhibition organized by the Russo gallery in Rome. The following years he devoted himself mainly to the art of restoration. He returned to South Africa and the atmosphere of this magical place enriched his imagination and experience.

After having studied the art of such great masters as Arnold Böcklin, Pietro Annigoni, Salvador Dali, and Giorgio De Chirico, Felice Pedretti developed his new style and working method. His works were strongly inspired by such philosophers as Arthur Schopenhauer and Sigmund Freud. He started to exhibit actively again in 2003, on the occasion of the Festival dei due Mondi di Spoleto.

In his painting, there were often depicted his beloved places and various symbolic objects: hourglasses, shells, wooden masks and tools of the trade. The colours in brown and golden tones in his works recalled the African heat. The use of these same colours for night themes highlighted the idea of a living night that precedes a new day.

In November 2007 Felice Pedretti exhibited at Palazzo Valentini in Rome in the show entitled Between dream and reality. He enjoyed a good success with the public and critics. Currently he continues his artistic research in his studio in Rome.
