She graduated from West Side High School and Purdue University Calumet earning a bachelor"s degree in communication, where she now takes on the role as a professor for news broadcasting.
She is the news anchor of WBBM-TV Newsradio in Chicago, Illinois. She worked as a steelworker in northwest Indiana to finance her education. Her previous radio stations were WBAA, WJOB, WGVE, and WLTH before coming to Chicago.
Felicia worked at Columbia Broadcasting System Radio where she was the first woman and African American to co-anchor mornings.
Felicia celebrated her 25th Anniversary of on-air broadcasting with Newsradio 780 WBBM-TV on October 1, 2009. Middlebrooks is the director and producer of her own video production company, Saltshaker Productions Limited Liability Company, located in Chicago and Los Los Angeles
In March of 2002, she was in a highly publicized dispute with management and her job was saved by the Review Jesse Jackson. (references #4 & 5).
She has won numerous awards for leadership and journalism including the Edward R. Murrow Award for Excellence in News and the Associated Press “Best Reporter Award”. She is the founder and president of "Hollywood Comes to Chicago" and serves on the Board of Directors for three non-profit organizations: “Hands of Hope”, “Workplace Integration Nurturing Good Students: Women in Need Growing Stronger”, and “Children’s Home and Aid Society” (CHASI).
