Expelled from the Union of Writers after protesting against the harassment of Dr. A. Sakharov, and the arrest of his own wife Z. Krakhmalnikova in 1982. His archive was confiscated by the Committee for State Security and he was arrested in January 1985. Released from exile in Altai in 1987.
