Education
Primary studies in Villa de Santiago. Preparatory studies in Mexico City and in Querétaro. Enrolled at the National Military College, January 7, 1930, graduating as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Cavalry, January 1, 1934.
Distinguished cadet, served as a sergeant of the cadets. Graduated from the Staff and Command School, Higher War College, 1941-1944. Course in military arms from the Applied Military School, 1937.

Member of the Presidential Staff, 1946-1952. Assistant to the military attaché, Washington, D.C., 1952-1953. Assistant to the Inspector General of the Army, 1959-1965.
Private Secretary to the Secretary of National Defense, Marcelino García Barragán, 1965-1969. Chief of Staff of the Secretariat of National Defense, 1969-1970. Secretary of National Defense, 1976-1982.
Career army officer; served in the 20th, 13th and 35th Regiments, 1934-1940. Fought against the rebellion of Saturnino Cedillo in San Luis Potosí, 1939. Section Chief of the 3rd Infantry Division, 1946.
