Felix Gotschalk received his Bachelor of Science in 1954 and a Master of Science in 1956, both from Virginia Commonwealth University. In 1958 Gotschalk earned his Ph.D. from Tulane University.
Felix Gotschalk worked as a draftsman at Vepco in Richmond, Virginia in 1946-1947 and during 1949-1951. Then he was a pianist in Richmond from 1951 to 1958.
During 1958-1962 he worked as an assistant professor at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. Then he was an assistant professor at Bowman Medical School in Winston-Salem, North Carolina from 1962 to 1970.
Gotschalk later started private practice as a psychologist in Winston-Salem during 1970-1984, and since 1984 he had been a freelance writer.
Gotschalk flourished in the 1970s, publishing mainly in anthologies such as Robert Silverberg's New Dimensions and Damon Knight's Orbit series, where the experimental energies of science fiction's New Wave persisted. He was the author of one novel "Growing Up in Tier 3000" (1975), which shared themes and a domed city setting with a number of his short stories.
During the 1980s, his stories appeared with some regularity in The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction.
His work remains uncollected, but prime to be championed by some small press publisher, as has been done for the work of such similarly idiosyncratic stylists such as R.A. Lafferty and David R. Bunch.
Felix C. Gotschalk was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.
Felix C. Gotschalk married Nelle Mull, a teacher, in 1957. The couple had two children - Robert and Felicia.
