Huang Feng-hsiang received his early education in mission schools and graduated from Boone University (later Huachung University), Wuchang, with Bachelor of Arts degree cum laude (with distinction) in 1927.
Mr. Huang served as a head of the Reference Department of the National Central University Library, Nanjing, in 1928. In 1929 he was sent to Penang to edit the Eastern Courier, an English Weekly by the Central Publicity Department of the Kuomintang. From 1930 to 1938 Huang Feng-hsiang held the position of an editor of the Kwong Wah Yit Pok, a Penang Chinese daily newspaper. Then he acted as an editor and publisher of the Min Kuo Jih Pao, Singapore.
