Little remained in New York until 1843, when he relocated to Nauvoo to be with his family members. When his family members followed Brigham Young to the Salt Lake Valley, Little remained in Illinois until 1850, when he set out for California via Salt Lake City. When he arrived in Salt Lake City, Little decided to remain there rather than carry on to California.
Little was a businessman in Utah Territory.
He was elected the mayor of Salt Lake City for three consecutive terms (1876-1878. 1878-1880; 1880-1882). Little died at Salt Lake City from typhoid fever.
He was buried at the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
