Career
Born in Boherlahen, County, Coffey first excelled at hurling in his youth. He arrived on the inter-county scene at the age of seventeen when he first linked up with the minor team before later joining the junior side. He made his senior debut during the 1943 championship.
At club level he was a two-time Connacht medallist, firstly with and later with.
Coffey retired from inter-county hurling following the conclusion of the 1953 championship.
