Macbeth, Florence was born on January 12, 1891 in Mankato, Minnesota, United States. Daughter of Charles J. and Alice (Monfort) Macbeth.
Graduated from St. Mary’s Hall, Fairbault, Minnesota, 1908.
Studied in the United States, Europe under Yeatman Griffith (voice) and Charles Trier (acting). Made debut, Lamoureux Orchestra, Scheveningen, The Netherlands, 1912. Operatic debut as Gilda in Rigoletto, Darmstadt, Germany, 1912.
London debut with Thomas Beecham and Queens Hall Orchestra, 1913. Prima donna coloratura Chicago Opera Company (American debut as Rosina in Barber of Seville, 1914), Ravinia Park Opera Company, 1914-1931, appearing as Mimi, Lucia, Juliet, Martha, Violetta, Ophelia and others. In concert, oratorio and radio since 1932.
Proposed and helped organize, Los Angeles Opera Guild, 1940. Honorary member Sigma Alpha Iota.
