Formerly associated with Edward C. Cabot, he began practice in Boston under the firm name of Cabot & Chandler during the mid-seventies. Some years later however, in 1888, he withdrew from the partnership to accept the position of Professor of Architecture at Boston’s Technical School familiarly known as "M. I. T.” As head of the Department for many years Professor Chandler won recognition in the field of educational work, also was known as the author of a number of books on Architecture. He was active professionally until a short time before his death.
He had been a member of the Boston Society of Architects for more than half a century, a Fellow of the Institute since 1889.
