Francis Harvey

Background

He was born in 1534, the second son of John Harvey of Ickworth, Suffolk by Elizabeth, daughter of Henry Pope of Mildenhall, Suffolk.

Career

In 1589, he was elected Member of Parliament for Knaresborough and in 1593 Member of Parliament for Chippenham. He had one daughter.

Achievements

• Harvey's poem "Heron" won the 1989 Guardian and World Wildlife Fund Poetry Competition. In 1990 he won a Peterloo Poets Prize and was a prizewinner in the Cardiff International Poetry Competition. He had also won The Irish Times/Yeats Summer School Prize.

Membership

In 1571 and 1584–1587, he was the Member of Parliament for Colchester, Essex as the nominee of Sir Francis Walsingham.
