Admitted a solicitor, 1878. Member of London School Board, 1891-1894, also 1897. Member of Hackney Borough Council, 1900-1903.

Under - Sheriff for City of London, 1904-1905. Mayor of Hackney, 1905-1906. Alderman, Walbrook Ward, City of London, 1906-1909.

Trustee of the Spurstowe Charity, the Hackney Benevolent Society, the Stoke Newington Dispensary, the British Asylum for Deaf and Dumb Females, Clapton. Churchwarden of St. Thomas, Clapton Common, for 27 years.
