Career
Appointed Lieutenant 2nd Battalion West Yorkshire Regiment, 1886. Captain, 1893; served Ashanti Campaign, 1895 (star). British Central Africa, 1898 (medal and clasp).
Commanded British Force in combined Anglo-Portuguese operations in East Nyasaland, 1899 (medal, clasp, despatches, Brevet Majority). South Africa, 1900 (medal and clasp). Seconded and appointed Assistant Deputy Commissioner B. C.A. Protectorate under Foreign Office, 1897.
Deputy Commissioner, 1901. Acted as Commissioner, Commander-in-Chief, and ConsulGeneral B.C.A. Protectorate, 1903. Deputy Governor, Nyasaland, 1907. C. M.G. 1904; 3rd son of late Stephen Pearce, and Matilda, d. of late Henry Cheswright.
