Background
The eldest son of Hannibal Vyvyan, an Member of Parliament, High Sheriff of Cornwall and Captain of Street Mawes castle, Francis became Captain of Street Mawes Castle himself in 1603, was Member of Parliament for Street Mawes in the Parliament of 1604-1611, was briefly Vice-Admiral for South Cornwall after his father"s retirement from that post, and served as High Sheriff of Cornwall in 1617.
