Served as private 1st Philadelphia Battery Light Artillery, June-September, 1863 (honorary discharged). Commissioned Lieutenant Company B, 215th Pennsylvania Infantry, 1865. Admitted to Pennsylvania bar, 1867.
1st assistant district attorney, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, 1881-1887. Appointed judge Court of Common Pleas Northern 1, Philadelphia, April 1887. Elected to same office November 1887, for term of 10 years and reëlected 1897 and 1907 and 1917 without opposition.
Served as private 1st Philadelphia Battery Light Artillery, June-September, 1863 (honorary discharged).
