(When the chapters were appearing serially in Extensian Ma...)
When the chapters were appearing serially in Extensian Magazine from niich thr are now rq rinted with some slight changes and additions I asked this good friend if he would be kind enou to write a word of introduction to the completed book when it appeared. In his neverfailing readiness to hdp, he promised that he would. When the book was in type and on die threshold of publication. I dKN is Jit to remmd him of his promise but did not It was not because I had changed my mind about die value of support If I once thought that the story needed a Strong staff upon which to lean, I am even more conscious of the fact now that I contemplate the completed but unpolished producit It is partially because I am now more conscious than I was then of its deficiencies that I hesitated to ask, and finally refrained from askmg, my distinguished friend to stand sponsor for my ramb Kng memories. I am letting the book go out alone also because it is a diapter from my own life. All throu that life I have shouldered my own burdens and carried my own rexxisibilities; for I always felt a ceitam timidity about askmg odiers to be my apologists. When I was sure that what I sought from odiers was for God, for His Church, or for His poor, I never had any fear or shame. My boldness seems to stop at that point. I have always hated to ask support in the name of friendship. What anodier might add to my story would be only the offering of friendsh), and might be gilded, with friendships generosity, by undeserved laudation. For Church Extension I deserve no praise. The diings diat have grown under my hands (d not grow by the skill of diem, but in qite of dieir clumsiness. If Extension is worth a thought it is because God made it sa If it needs human praise to foster and feed it, then it must have been built on the sands of human pride. Let its story, then, march out without a staff, and as th (Typographical errors above are due to OCR software and don't occur in the book.)

(This book was originally published prior to 1923, and rep...)
This book was originally published prior to 1923, and represents a reproduction of an important historical work, maintaining the same format as the original work. While some publishers have opted to apply OCR (optical character recognition) technology to the process, we believe this leads to sub-optimal results (frequent typographical errors, strange characters and confusing formatting) and does not adequately preserve the historical character of the original artifact. We believe this work is culturally important in its original archival form. While we strive to adequately clean and digitally enhance the original work, there are occasionally instances where imperfections such as blurred or missing pages, poor pictures or errant marks may have been introduced due to either the quality of the original work or the scanning process itself. Despite these occasional imperfections, we have brought it back into print as part of our ongoing global book preservation commitment, providing customers with access to the best possible historical reprints. We appreciate your understanding of these occasional imperfections, and sincerely hope you enjoy seeing the book in a format as close as possible to that intended by the original publisher.
