Began practice, Platte City, 1889. Prosecuting attorney, Platte Company, Missouri, 2 terms. Member Missouri Senate, 1899 (chairman Senate and House committees on revision statutes).
Democratic nominee for Congress, 4th District of Missouri, 1904.
Member Missouri Senate, 1909, 11, 13 (president pro tem, 1913). Resigned from Senate, August 4, 1913, to qualify as United State Attorneys for Western District of Missouri, by appointment of President Wilson.
Reapptd. July 23, 1917, for term ending August 4, 1921.
Resigned October 23, 1920, to become a receiver of the Kansas City Saint Rys. Company Democratic nominee for governor of Missouri, 1928.
