Assistant architect Treasury Department, Washington, 1871-1874. In partnership with E. C. Cabot, Boston, 1874-1888. Professor architecture, 1888-1911, Massachusetts Institute Technology.

Professor emeritus, 1911. Honorary member American International Assurance. Member board Art Commissioners City of Boston, 1898-1908.
