Career
In 1903, he was appointed to the judicial administration of that region as 1st alternate of the federal judge substitute and years later, as 1st sectional judge substitute, as recorded by the Annuário Administrativo, Agricola, Profissional, Mercantil e Industrial dos Estados Unidos do Brazil e Indicador para 1909 and the same publication for the years 1911–1912
Coronel Couto (as he was known) generated a great descendence in two weddings. Firstly, with Matilde de Lima, renamed Matilde de Lima Couto, the couple had ten children: Antonio José de Lima Couto (Tote), Ana Maria de Lima Couto (Nane), Carolina de Lima Couto, Matilde de Lima Couto (Titide), Maria das Neves de Lima Couto (Nevinha), Manoel de Lima Couto, Raimundo de Lima Couto, José de Lima Couto, Cotinha de Lima Couto and Mariquinha de Lima Couto. After his death, his descendants donated the family"s house, with a large lot, to the city of Brejo, for the purpose of installing a school, today Centro Educacional Monsenhor Pedro Santos (CEMOPS), where currently a college also operates.
Next to this area there is a place named Coronel Couto as a tribute to him by the Hall of this city.
