He previously served as the Municipal President of Tijuana, from 1998 to 2001. He succeeded José Guadalupe Osuna Millán, having taken office on 1 November 2013. Vega graduated from the Centro de Enseñanza Técnica y Superior in 1978 with a degree in business administration.
On November 2, 2011, while he was a federal deputy (or legislator), he announced his candidacy for governor of Baja California.
The Baja California governor"s election took place on July 7, 2013. Apart from the Personal Area Networks, Vega was also supported by the Party of the Democratic Revolution and the New Alliance.
Trenti was supported by the Ecologist Green Party of Mexico and the Labor Party in addition to his own Institutional Revolutionary Party.
He later served as a member of Mexico"s Chamber of Deputies as part of the LXI Legislature of the Mexican Congress from 2009 to 2012.
